Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
RareTrader is operated by Alex Gausman in British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what information the site handles and why. In short: there are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies, and we do not sell or rent personal information.
What stays in your browser
RareTrader keeps some things only in your own browser’s storage, and does not send them to us: your theme and layout preferences, table settings, the addresses you choose to track on the portfolio page, the access token for a wallet link you have started, and the state of an unvault you are working on. It also sets one cookie that remembers your card-page layout. You can remove all of this by clearing the site’s data in your browser.
What reaches our servers
- Requests and logs. Like most websites, our servers record each request: your IP address, the time, the page or data requested (which can include a wallet address you looked up) and your browser’s user agent. We use this to keep the site running and secure, and to limit abuse. Logs are overwritten as they rotate, usually within weeks.
- Addresses you look up or connect. When you view a portfolio, connect a wallet or prepare a transaction, the addresses involved are sent to our servers to fetch holdings or build the transaction. They are not stored, except as described below and in logs.
- Wallet links. If you link an Ethereum address to a Counterparty address, we store both addresses, the challenge and your signatures. A link that is not verified expires after 72 hours. A verified link is kept and shown publicly, so others can see that the two addresses belong together. Email us to remove it.
- Unvault actions. To coordinate unvault transactions safely, we store the vault address, the transaction you sign, the destination and return addresses, and a random identifier for your browser. These records describe public blockchain transactions and are kept as an operational record.
- Security reports. Your browser may report content it would block on our pages. These reports contain the page and the blocked resource, not personal information.
- Email. If you email us, we keep the correspondence to answer you.
Public blockchain data
RareTrader indexes public data from Bitcoin, Counterparty and Ethereum, including addresses, balances and transactions, and shows it on the site. This data is published by the blockchains themselves, not collected from you, and we cannot change or remove it from them. Addresses are pseudonymous, but they can sometimes be linked to a person.
Who else is involved
- Services your browser contacts directly: your wallet extension (MetaMask or another Ethereum wallet, UniSat), and, when you unvault, Emblem Vault (v2.emblemvault.io) and the key-signing service it uses (tor-us-signer-coval.vercel.app). Their own privacy policies apply.
- Services our servers query for you, which receive the addresses or transactions involved: OpenSea and Alchemy for Ethereum data and orders, Emblem Vault, and the Bitcoin explorers Blockstream (blockstream.info) and mempool.space for some address lookups. Transactions you sign are broadcast to the public Bitcoin or Ethereum networks.
- Infrastructure: our servers are hosted by OVHcloud in Canada; encrypted backups are kept with Backblaze in its Canadian region; email is handled by Fastmail.
How long we keep information
Logs rotate within weeks. Wallet links and unvault records are kept as described above. Our encrypted database backups are kept for up to 12 months, so removed information can remain in a backup until that backup expires.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, including the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act where they apply, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to remove a wallet link. Email support@raretrader.com. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
Age
RareTrader is not intended for anyone under 18.
Changes
We will update this policy when our practices change; the date above shows the latest version. If we ever add analytics, it will be listed here first.
